There is still no government recommended accesskey assignments in the Philippines unlike those in developed countries like United Kingdom and Canada.
However, the need to standardize accesskey assignments is imperative. Persons with disabilities in the Philippines will have less difficulty navigating throughout the whole site because they will grow accustomed to these default settings.
The bases in recommending the special accesskey assignments come from the combined data gathered from the awarded web sites that are members of PWAG. They are as follows:
- http://www.congress.gov.ph/siteguides/accessibility.php – House of Representatives Web site
- http://www.atriev.org.ph/accessibilitystatement.html – ATRIEV Web site
- http://www.mccid.edu.ph/instructionaccessibility.htm and
http://www.mccidonline.net/accessibility.htm – MCCID and MCCID Online Web sites - http://www.dlsu.edu.ph/help/accessibility/default.asp – DLSU Web site
Common keyboard shortcuts used by browsers and Windows operating system can still be applied to the web sites.
Also, careful considerations were made in adopting the UK and Canadian recommendations. PWAG intends to make this a basis to standardize access key assignments for all PWAG member sites and recommend to the Philippine government to adopt this as the country’s standard keyboard assignments.
