Pangasinan SWDO Conducts Web Accessibility Training for Women

The Department of Information and Communications Technology in coordination with the Pangasinan Social Welfare Division Office and the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center 1 – Department of Social Welfare and Development (AVRC1-DSWD) conducts its web accessibility training on women with disabilities of Pangasinan.

The aim of the training is “to come up with a pool of Web Accessibility Experts in Region I who could help in making or developing accessible websites in the Ilocos Region.” The participants who attended came from the attached agencies of DSWD in Ilocos Region (Region I), Women with Disabilities leaders as well as representatives from the MIS divisions of the local municipalities and cities of Pangasinan.

Topics that were discussed are the laws pertaining to accessibility with focus on Memo Circular No. 4-2017 implementing the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. The participants were also able to learn how to install the WordPress Content Management System using iGov’s web template.

PWAG President Jojo Esposa Jr. lectured about user web accessibility testing as well as PWAG’s Web Design Accessibility Recommendation (WDAR) in harmony with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.

Their output is designing a WordPress CMS site which is both accessible and aesthetically pleasing. The activity was held at the President’s Hotel in Lingayen, Pangasinan from November 27 to December 1, 2017.
